Faces at the window, but no one at the door,
guess I’ll set these bags down on the floor
And I’ll ring the bell again, and wonder, where everybody went

Now I volunteered, no I wasn’t commandeered,
but images kept swirling in my head
And all across the city, the big machines are sleeping,
and birds gently sing away my dread
Now I’m no angel, just a friend, I guess I wanted, to make a little dent

When there’s no place, where everyone is safe, and there’s no space for
Anything but kindness, only kindness

Now the sky is getting dark, and there’s no one at the parks,
I’ve dropped my last meal delivery
And every place is closed, except the corner package store,
and it makes me want to get something to drink
I know I shouldn’t drink alone, but this time’s not like any time before
The loneliness could swallow you whole,
and make you think you might not carry on
